If you never knew me before and then you take a glance look at my room, i bet for hundred thousand rupiahs, you’re not gonna be able to get the first guest right about what major i was taking. My room is so not representating my major, or what kind of family i grew-up in. Some friends who entered my room said that the room is kind of gypsi’s-like. Maybe because my room just have too many colours (let’s just call it ‘colorful’, to make it sound a bit more nice :p), the ‘countless’ earings displayed in the door of my closet, or some (messy) touches of ‘handycrafting’, and music seems to always play ..
Maybe i look more like a tailor, crafter, or (i wish) an indie musician. Well. That’s not all wrong, because i kinda do little of those things in my spare time – which i have kinda lot, lately. Being a ‘crafter’ is especially fun, because it gives me results that immediately appear: as handycrafts, and money when the handycrafts were sold :D
I don’t remember exactly how did it start, but i guess it started from my compulsion for buying earings that later got me realize that making is much cheaper than buying. And so, i started making earings. Long after i made my first pair of earings, i learned to do knitting in this cool shop with this inspiring young lady; i got addicted, and i produced these:
Thanks to my long period of unemployment that gave me lots of time to learn and play, not long after that i started to learn that wire can also be knitted. I also learn the (very) basic crochet technique. Then, i did wire knitting and crochet-ing, and immediately enjoyed it a lot since i could make many cute little things with my limited skill and equipments; in considerably shorter time (as compared to making long scarf :P). They’re also get sold easier due to the more affordable price, so i can get quick money from selling my hand-mades :D
With more stuffs sold, i can start to upgrade my equipments and buy more ‘raw materials’. With more things available, recently my room has turned to something similar like workshop room in toko Petra or Jolie. Haha. And this is my working table with everything it contains ;)
Maybe you’ll ask, what are those things, actually? Well. They are:
Beads – these beads have been grouped by their colour/shape in order to make it easier for me to put them together to the wire
Support systems – rings, chains, clippers .... all those metals usually needed for the ‘finishing’ part of making accesories
Wire – these coils of wire are used to get the beads together. Currently most of my hand-mades use two colours of wire: copper and silver. I once had black and dark brown wire, but they’re all used up already. I still have the colour of sky blue, dark blue, and maroon; but i rarely use them due to their lack of flexibility.
I only use the very basic techniques of knitting and crochet-ing, but by choosing the right mix-of-materials and ... loosen up some regular sanity i used to have (:p) the outcomes is kinda nice:
Of course, there are many many more things my hands have made, but they’re in some places now, waiting for buyers to bring them home. Hopefully, they’re all doing well, and gave me the money i need to pay for my ‘sumpah dokter’ ceremony. Hihi
Anyway. These things aren’t sold, yet. Would the buyer be you?
