Giving is easy. And fun. Haha. The feeling that you please people, the feeling that you’re strong enough to let good things go, and the silent expectation of getting something better in return (and the expectation does come true, many times ;] ) ... those are some reasons why giving is fun. And for me –and maybe for many of us- giving is somehow easy, because we always have things. And when we have things, we can give things :D
For me, the key for giving-with-ease lies in the belief that nothing lasts forever, including the whatever things we have. We can have it at one time, we can lose it another time, and we may get it back sometimes later. Somehow i believe that we’re all like a container with a limited space of storage; when it comes to time where the container is full, we need to give away some old things before we’re able to add the new ones. And somehow we need to keep the things in the container ‘circulating’ in and out, to make sure none of them get irrepairably broken and become non-valuable.
Well.
I’ll give some examples about how easy giving is, and the proof for the statement “when we have things, we can give things”. We don’t always have to be rich enough in order to be able to give, we just need to have the strong good-will, and somehow ‘the force’ will simply provide the way ;)
The “barang-dagangan” giveaway. I kinda enjoy this selling-things activity i’m now doing for two reasons: first, i get money from it and i can do things with the money. Second, it gives an extra option for treating my friends other than paying for them for food or such ;) sometimes i just ask my friends or relative to take a look at my ‘barang dagangan’ and say, “choose and take whichever you like”, or “i’ll give you a certain amount of discount for this thing”. Mostly, they like this treat, and next time i brought another things to sell, their tendency of buying and promoting my ‘barang dagangan’ was somehow higher as compared to those who had never been treated. Haha. I got benefits inreturn, as always.
The clothes & accesories giveaway. I giveaway clothes each time i feel my closet is already full or near full, which is at least once a year since i go clothes-shopping often :p One of the ‘biggest’ moment of clothes giveaway was when i got brokenhearted some months ago. Haha. The heartbreak was kinda itchy, and it turned out to be ‘painful’ since i was also broke at that time. Haha. And so, i told some friends that i held a giveaway in order to ‘buang sial’, and some of them came in, exploring my closet and my earings diplay, got some good stuffs, and they seemed all happy :D well. I was happy too; for being able to see those happy faces, and for finding out that i could still actually give even though i was like--- totally broke :D
The colouring book giveaway. I love good things in cheap price (A LOT), and somehow they seem to love me in return. Haha. Many times i was kinda lucky to be able to find those good cheap things in kinda-strange moment and place. One of that lucky moment was when i went to C*refour Ampl*z some months ago during the times of Merapi eruption. I was only casually dropping by there, in the middle of my search for good cheap children books along the bookstores in Jalan Solo. I brought approximately Rp 200.000, cash, a kinda-huge amount i rarely bring when going to Ampl*z or any other place other than “tempat mbayar SPP/BOP”. Most of the money was from some generous friends who donated for the refugees and it was intended to be used for buying children books. I was kinda disappointed that time because my search hadn’t yield me anything, so i decided to take a break by doing a sightseeing in C*refour Amplaz. There, i found some Disney’s “Home on the Range” colouring book -sized approximately 25 x 20 cm, about twenty pages, with some well-coloured pages inside- sold for only Rp. 5000 each. I saw similar books in the bookstore i visited minutes before with the price of about Rp 13000 each, and so i was kinda really excited to find the books in a much cheaper price. I immediately counted how many colouring books available, and there were 40 of them, which would cost me exactly Rp 200.000-just the same as the amount of money i brought :D So, after making sure that i still have an extra of Rp 3000 to pay for transjogja bus ticket, i brought those 40 books to the cashier, paid them, and ta-da!! My friends and me could then giveaway a forty books for the children in refugee. That should cheer some of those kids a little ;)

----Good hearted friends from the program “1001 buku for Jogja” delivered the books we (and many other people) donated to the childreen in refugee---- |
Well.
Those are just three examples of ‘simple’ giving. Of course there are many things we can do for giving, for as long that we believe: whenever we have, whatever we have, we can give. And somehow sometimes, when we believe that we have, we really do have ;) *
*Please remember that this doesn’t apply for “mobil mewah tetangga”, “pacar orang lain yang ganteng banget”, or the ones alike :p
