What Are You Doing The Rest of Your Life

This song entitled “What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life” was an old song with lyrics written by Alan Bergman and Marylin Bergman, with original music written by Michel Legrand for the 1969 movie "Happy Ending".

The song was re-sung in acapella version by The Real Group in the album "Unreal!".

When viewing the lyric at glance, this song may seem really demanding. The melody, however, lead the lyric to a very different meaning. This song then turn into a huge wish of devotion by one person to the one he/she loves, declared on the day of the loved one’s birthday. This devotion is holistic. It extends through the course of time, through darkness and light, the best and the worst. No “if”, no “but”, the devotion is just heart-warming-ly unconditional...

Well. Always kinda amazing how The Real Group choose melodies when arranging an old song, and this is one is just sweet...

*no, i’not gonna talk abut the mood-changing modulations or the 4/4-change-to-3/4-and-back-to-4/4 rhythm. That’ll be too long :p

What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life – Lyric

What are you doing the rest of your life?
Northern southern east and west of your life
I have only one request of your life
That you spend it all with me

All the seasons and the times of your life
All the nickels and the dimes of your life
Let the reasons and the rhymes of your life
All begin and end with me

I want to see your face in every kind of light
In fields of dawn and forest of the night
And when you stand before the candles on a cake
Oh let me be the one to hear the silent wish you make

Those tomorrows waiting deep in your eyes
In the world of love you keep in your eyes
I’ll awaken what's asleep in your eyes
It may take a kiss or two

Through all of my life
Summer winter spring and fall of my life
All I ever will recall of my life is all of my life with you

Through all of my life
Summer winter spring and fall of my life
All i ever will recall of my life is all of my life with you
